Cliff Lee Makes Phillies Even More Dangerous

As if the defending World Series Champs needed any help in their run to return to October action. They are already six games up in the NL East, and their offense is far-and-away the most powerful in all of baseball. Add solid pitching to the menu, you have legitimate contender for a repeat.

On Wednesday, the Phillies made a move for that extra pitching by picking up last years Cy Young award winner, Cliff Lee from the Cleveland Indians. Lee, along with Ben Francisco headed to Philadelphia for prospects Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Lou Marson.

Lee was sad to go, but relished the opportunity to win. “Obviously, I’m going to miss all these guys here,” said Lee. “But it’s an opportunity for me to help a team that’s in first place and is the defending world champion. As far as that goes, I’m excited.”

Francisco agreed. “I’m surprised,” he said. “I woke up this morning not even thinking about it. I got to the field and obviously heard everything. It’s definitely a shock, but I’m excited to go to a team that is the defending champion.”

The Phillies are good, and they just got better. Grab some Phillies tickets, and see for yourself.
