Early Offense Boosts Yankees in Subway Sweep
Chien Ming Wang has struggled mightily all year long, giving up run-after-run and never getting the mighty run support that he would need to pick up wins, as he as gone half way through the season and has accumulated a 0-6 record on the year and and ERA over 10.
Sunday’s matchup was different however, as the Yankees offense posted three runs in the first inning, while Wang tossed a solid game, giving up two runs and picking up the win 4-2.
Livan Hernandez suffered the loss for the Mets, while Mariano Rivera picked up his 18th save on the year.
No Yankee player accumulated more than one hit, as the club’s four runs came off of only four hits. For the Mets, only Gary Sheffield picked up more than one hit (2) while their two runs came on five hits.
The Yankees and Mets are both vying for playoff berths, so grab your Mets and Yankees tickets today and enjoy the run.
