Wright’s 10th Inning Double Lifts Mets
David Wright’s two run double, and incidentally his fourth hit of the night, broke 1-1 tie in the 10th inning on Friday as the NL East #2 Mets defeated the basement-dwelling Nationals in Washington 3-1. For the Mets, the win snapped a three game losing streak.
Luis Castillo led off the 10th inning for the Mets with a single off of Nats reliever Joel Hanrahan before Carlos Beltran walked. Wright then did his thing when he lined a 2-2 pitch into the right centerfiled gap to score both Mets base runners. This four hits, match his single game high.
Sean Green threw a perfect ninth inning for New York before Francisco Rodriquez polished off his 15th save opportunity of the season to remain perfect in his scoreless 10th.
Washington has dropped 9 out of their last 10 games and have fallen even further down the food chain in the NL East. The Mets are sitting three games out of first behind the Phillies, and would miss the playoff by one game in the Wild Card, if the season ended today.
Grab some Mets tickets now and enjoy the summer!
