Remember Clay Buchholz? He was the Red Sox rookie who, in 2007, threw a no-hitter in his second-ever Major League start. Of all the no-hitters ever thrown in the Majors, that has to go on the list of great ones, if for no other reason than his complete inexperience.

Well, Buchholz is back in the news today, after making a minor-league start for the Pawtucket Red Sox against the Louisville Bats in AAA baseball. It wasn’t a no hitter that got him in the news, however – it was something that was almost even more impressive…the most elusive of all pitching accomplishments – a perfect game.

Only 17 pitchers have ever accomplished this in the Major Leagues, and make no mistake – it’s just as significant of an accomplishment in AAA. Buchholz entered the 9th inning with the perfecto intact before giving up a single and ending his date with the record books.
