Mets’ Delgado to Have Hip Surgery
On the heels of last year’s late season power surge, Carlos Delgado looked certain to make the Mets look good, when they picked up his $12M option for 2009. But this season, he’s been nagged by a pair of leg injuries that has finally gotten the best of him.
Mets team Physician, Struan Coleman says that Delgado must have surgery in order to repair a labrum tear and remove a bone spur in his right hip.
The Mets have not released a timetable on Delgado’s return. “I wasn’t too optimistic about it,” Mets manager Jerry Manuel said. “What we have to do now is try to find out how we’re going to continue to play good baseball without Carlos Delgado.”
In the meantime, Met’s fans will face some uncertainty as Fernando Tatis, Daniel Murphy, and Jeremy Reed will take turns on first base.
