Yankees Ride Six-Run First into Seventh Inning

Yankees pitcher Phil Coke is not used to pitching in the 9th inning, but with Mariano Rivera unavailable, it was up to Coke to close the door on the Twins on Monday. The Rookie left-hander handed out the final four outs and recorded his first career save as they Yankees completed a four game sweep in the Bronx.

With a final score of 7-6, it would seem as though it was another battle into the late innings, but this one was a little different than the three walk-off games this weekend, the Yankees were actually outscored 6-1 after the first inning, as a huge outburst in the bottom of the first provided almost all the offense the Yankees would need.

The huge first inning was anchored by back-to-back homeruns by Alex Rodriquez and Mark Teixeira as well as a two out RBI by Francisco Cervelli. Teixeira also hit another a homerun in the game.

The Yankees are going for lucky #7 Tuesday night. Grab some New York Yankees tickets and cheer ‘em on!
