It Took a Dozen, but Braves Best Mets
In their second consecutive 12-inning affair, the Mets came up short against the Braves in New York on Wednesday. So close to victory in the ninth, the Mets weren’t able to hang on and were finally bested in a dozen innings by their NL East opponents.
A grand slam by Fernando Tatis, a home run by Gary Sheffield, and several great defensive moments put the Mets up early – but they were unable to hold on, as the Braves chipped away finally tying the game in the 7th, before both teams scored single runs in the 8th.
The 9th, 10th, and 11th innings were uneventful, until the Braves’ Mark Prado hit a homerun in the top of the 12th off of the Mets last available pitcher, Ken Takahashi.
Despite the setback, the Mets ticket holders have something to hold their heads high about, as they completed their homestand a formidable 6-2 and have seemingly bounced back a bit from their early frustrations.
