Bone Spurs Plague Mets, Putz, Delgado
When the Mets head out west to San Francisco this weekend, they will be without the help of two of their key players. The Mets announced today that relief pitcher J.J. Putz and first baseman Carlos Delgado have both been diagnosed with bone spurs and will not be available for the weekend.
Putz has been suffering from inflammation in the back of his right elbow and is dealing with a bone spur in the joint. Putz has been doing a fine job this year as a setup man to Francisco Rodriguez, an adjustment that some thought might be difficult. A team spokesman said that Putz will miss at least the first two games of the coming series.
Delgado is also fighting a hip injury that has been reclassified as an impingement of the right hip, a slight muscle tear, and a bone spur. Delgado will be missed, as the team announced he will miss at least four games – including the entire series with the Giants.
So if you have Mets tickets this weekend, you won’t be seeing Delgado or Putz, but the Mets have plenty of star power to go around.
