Giants Clinch Homefield in Overtime

Friday, December 12th, 2008

It took the Giants 4 Quarters and an overtime period to beat the Panthers on Sunday, but they did so, and were able to secure the NFC’s best record and the home field advantage throughout the playoffs when Brandon Jacobs scored from two yards out as New York beat Carolina 34-28 on Sunday.

Despite a monster effort from DeAngelo Williams – who scored four touchdowns on 108 yards rushing – the Giants were able to come back late in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 28 on a Jacobs plunge from one yard out. Jacobs himself had a great outing, rushing for 87 yards and three touchdowns, including that one with 2 minutes left in the game, as well as the OT game winner.

The Giants have definitely proven that they are deserving of home field, having successfully defended their Super Bowl crown thus far. They seem to be the favorites in the NFC right now, and could find themselves back in the big game in February. If you want to see for yourself, grab some New York Giants tickets!

Dolphins Defense Punishes ’9ers

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

What a great story the Miami Dolphins team has been this year. After winning their only game of the season during week 15 of the 2007 season, the Dolphins notched their ninth victory of the year in the same week in ’08.

The Dolphins are looking for the playoffs, as they continue to ride a great defense and a consistent offense lead by Chad Pennington.

It was the defense who shined this Sunday in Miami against the 49ers, as they held San Francisco to only three field goals while riding two first half touchdowns of their own to a 14-9 victory. Offensively for the Dolphins, Chad Pennington had two TD tosses while completing 12-19 passing for 158 yards and no interceptions.

My prediction is that the Dolphins will complete their Cinderella story by making the playoffs. Grab some Dolphins tickets, enjoy them play in the warm weather of Miami.

Jets Ride Fourth Quarter points to Victory

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

No one expected this weekend’s game between the Bills and the Jets to be of such huge consequences. Then again, everyone expected New England to have easily clinched the AFC East at this point. But great play by the “rest” of the division coupled with lackluster efforts by New England have made way for a great division in which every game counts.

Currently the Patriots, Dolphins and Jets are all tied for the division lead at 9-5, while the Bills are at 6-8, but still have something to prove after a phenomenal start at the beginning of the season. Brett Favre and Lavernius Coles got it done for New York as Favre went 17-30 with 207 yards in the air with one touchdown, while Coles caught five passes for 82 yards. Thomas Jones and Leon Washington added rushing touchdowns, while Jericho Cotchery caught the lone TD pass for the Jets.

With 5 minutes left in the game, the Bills led 27-24, when Shaun Ellis picked up Buffalo fumble and scored on an 11 yard run back with just over two minutes to go.

Great all-around play has been key for the Jets as they continue to shoot for a division championship. Grab some New York Jets tickets and watch the rest of the season.

Eagles look to Continue Hot Streak

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

When the Eagles battle the Browns on this weekend’s edition of Monday Night Football, they Eagles will have a clearer picture of where they stand in the NFC East race with the Cowboys and Redskins and the New York Giants, who have already clinched the division title.

Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook have been monsters these past few weeks as they have powered their way into the second place spot in the division behind tremendous efforts by their two star players.

Cleveland’s 4-9 record may indicate that they don’t offer too huge of a challenge for the Eagles, but you can never underestimate the power of a regional rivalry in the NFL. You just never know when a team like Cleveland might turn it on and make a game out of it. If you are in the area, this will definitely be a great game to watch on Monday night, so go grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and try and stay warm.

Eagles Continue to Soar, Beating the Best in the NFL

Monday, December 8th, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles have definitely earned the “Most Improved” award for their efforts in pushing their team through diversity and into the upper echelon of the NFL in the second half of the season this year.

After starting 3-3 before their Mid October bye week, the Eagles have gone 4-2-1 including wins over division rivals New York that avenged an earlier five point loss in November. It’s hard to argue against the Giants as the best team in the NFL, and Philly’s 20-14 victory over them on Sunday says a lot about the improvements they’ve made and their standing in the NFC East.

Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook have been absolute monsters for Philadelphia’s offense while their defense has kept other team out of the games and allowed their offense to do their work. If you’re looking for an exciting team with real playoff chances, grab some Philadelphia Eagles tickets and cheer them on.

Miami Continues Winning Ways, AFC East Knotted Up

Friday, December 5th, 2008

“What a difference a year makes.” How many fans, pundits and even players and coaches have said that this year about the Miami Dolphins who have turned their season around in dramatic fashion after an abysmal 1-15 season only a year ago.

Much of the credit is going to quarterback Chad Pennington, who signed with the Dolphins after being replaced in New York by Brett Favre. However, the Dolphins are the epitome of a team this year as everyone from their upper management (including new GM Bill Parcels) to their head coach, Tony Sporano, to their players and even fans.

The attitude in Miami is so much different than it was last year at this time when they had yet to win the first and only game of the year. Now they find themselves in a three-way tie with the Jets and Patriots for the AFC East lead. If you want to see some great football and some newly energized fans, find some Miami Dolphins tickets and watch the ‘Phins continue their rebound.

Jets Lose Second Straight as AFC East Piles Up

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

After seemingly owning the AFC East crown, it’s starting to look like the Jets are going to have to earn the right to the playoffs as there is now a three-way tie atop the division with the Jets, Dolphins, and Patriots all locked at 8-5 with three games left to play before the playoffs begin.

It could easily come down to the final week as well, when the Jets and Miami face off with a possible division title on the line. Prior to that game, the Jets face Buffalo and Seattle, two very winnable games, but by no means “gimmes”.

Miami’s remaining games are against San Francisco, Kansas City, and the Jets; while New England closes their season out with Oakland, Arizona, and Buffalo. Whatever happens, the AFC East has been extremely fun to watch this year. Go grab some New York Jets tickets and watch it all unfold.

Townsend’s Pick Six Spells Doom for Dallas

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

In my last post I talked about how the New York Jets and New York Giants both had quarterbacks from the same state. Well this weekend, Pittsburgh’s own Mississippi son made the difference in their victory against Dallas.

Desshae Townsend’s 25 yard return of a Tony Romo gift with less than two minutes left to seal the Steelers victory over the comeback Cowboys. Townsend was formerly a standout defensive back at Alabama, after his high school career in Mississippi. Ironically, Townsend’s high school (South Panola – Batesville, Mississippi) had its nation’s longest winning streak snapped at 89 this weekend as well as it lost in the Mississippi 5A State Championship.

After being behind 13-3 in the fourth quarter, the Steelers scored both of their touchdowns 24 seconds apart to close out their 20-13 win. The Steelers and Cowboys are both expected to make the playoffs, so grab some Cowboys tickets or Steelers tickets and cheer in the cold.

New York Team Look to Mississippi for QB Talent

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Mississippi is a small southern state that doesn’t generally get too much love when it comes to providing college football players to the pros. The three major universities in the state haven’t really accomplished much in the last 40 or 50 years and not too many enormous names have sprung to the NFL out of the state. Or have they?

Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Steve McNair, and Deuce McAllister all came out of the state of Mississippi, as did both current NFL quarterbacks in New York. Both the Giants Eli Manning and the Jets Brett Favre are Mississippi products who have excelled in their positions for varied lengths of time.

Both the Jets (behind Favre) and the Giants (behind Manning) are leading their prospective divisions and could possibly be on a collision course for the Super Bowl.

Grab some Giants tickets or Jets tickets, and watch some good ole boys from Mississippi do their thing!

Dolphins Comeback, Hold On Against St. Louis

Monday, December 1st, 2008

It wasn’t easy for the Miami Dolphins, but they were able to hold off the St. Louis Rams in the fourth quarter to secure their seventh victory of the season on Sunday. After falling behind 9-0 early in the second quarter, the Dolphins put 10 points on the board before the half to take a 10-9 halftime lead. They put another FG on the board in the third before exchanging fourth quarter field goals that gave them a 16-12 lead, which they would not relinquish.

The win puts the Dolphins at 7-5 on the year and tied for second place with New England one game out of first place behind the New York Jets in the AFC East. With two of their remaining three games against the paltry offenses of Kansas City and San Francisco, the Dolphins have a real shot at the playoffs only one year removed from their abysmal 2007 season.

If you’re in the Miami area, or in a city they are visiting in the next few weeks, grab some Miami Dolphins tickets see them continue their attempt at a great comeback season.
