“Hairspray” to End Broadway Run
Hairspray a popular Broadway musical based on the film of the same name by John Waters, is lowering the curtain on its hugely successful Broadway run in early 2009. Grab your Broadway tickets online now and see it before it leaves town!
For six years, Hairspray has been a Broadway staple, attracting thousands of fans, getting tremendously positive reviews, and even spawning a movie based on the play, based on the movie⦠makes sense, right? Well, six years may not seem long, and when compared to Rent, Cats, and Les Miserables it’s not. But there are so many active theaters on Broadway and many shows come and go with a run of only a year or two, so a six year, highly popular run is not a bad achievement at all.
During its run, Hairspray has not only been popular among fans, but actors have lined up to be a part of the show. From Lance Bass and Haylie Duff, to George “Norm” Wendt and Ashley Parker Angel, it has been one of the most consistently star-studded Broadway shows during its run.
Hairspray will close officially on January 19th, but it will leave behind a lasting legacy by virtue of its popularity, its stars, and the film that it produced that became so popular a few years ago. Though its leaving Broadway in January, I think it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of Hairspray.
