NY Yankees Close to Signing Cano for $30 million
At only 25, Robinson Cano is close to a $30 million contract to continue playing for the New York Yankees. And, bucking trends, it might just be a four-year contract. The Yankees typically don’t give multi-year contracts to young players.
Cano could become a free agent after the 2012 season. He joined the Yankees in 2005 and batted .297 with 14 homers and 62 RBIs. He finished second to Oakland’s Huston Street in voting for AL Rookie of the Year.
Cano was an all-star the following season. Last year things didn’t go so well at first. His batting average was .234 in May, but he wound up batting .306 with 19 homers and 97 RBIs. Last year he made $490,800 and asked for $4.55 million in arbitration. No go. Instead he was offered $3.2 million.
“New York has two other players still eligible for arbitration. Starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang asked for $4.6 million and was offered $4 million; and reliever Brian Bruney requested $845,000 while New York countered at $640,000.”
Other young players who will be eligible for arbitration includes pitchers Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy.
NY Yankee tickets go on sale next month.

Cano is a legit slugger in the making, better lock him up now while they still can… go yankees!

I agree 3000, Cano is the real deal. He has one of the best swings in the game, if he beefs up, he could hit 35-40 home runs a year.
